Liquid Crystal Device Vacuum Filling Chamber LCSFB-2

Filling of liquid crystal displays is usually done in custom-fixtured vacuum ovens in order to maximize throughput. The liquid crystal (LC) material is held in a long trough, which can be brought into contact with the fill port opening in the LCD (either by touching a foam “wick” in the LC trough, or the LC meniscus). This is very efficient for manufacturing, as large number of devices can be filled simultaneously. However, it requires relatively large amounts of liquid crystal material to fill even a single device.

LC Technologies’ vacuum filling chambers are designed for R&D and prototyping labs, where efficient materials usage and process flexibility are important. Manipulator arms allow the operator to effectively degas the liquid crystal mixture and pour very small amounts of liquid crystal onto the LCD fill port.

Custom modifications are possible—please contact LC Technologies to discuss.

Standard chamber specifications:

* 6” x 11.5” x 16.5” vacuum chamber (LCSFB-2)
* Minimizes LC material required to fill cells; LC contained in custom glass pitchers
* Cast aluminum construction
* Transparent top for visual process monitoring
* Supplied with two manual manipulators
* Equipped with stainless steel vacuum valve, thermocouple gauge and digital meter
* Hot plate, drive mechanism, or additional manipulators may be added

Vacuum pump specifications:
• 2 stage rotary vane mechanical pump
• Supplied with oil mist eliminator on exhaust port
• Optional micromaze trap on pumping port
