LCD End Seal Press LC-ESP4 and LC-ESP9 LCD end seal presses are used after vacuum filling to press the glass substrates down onto the spacer particles for accurate cell gap control. The fill port can then be sealed with a UV curable or epoxy resin. Why do we require end seal pressing? Liquid crystal devices require very accurate control of cell gap, in many cases +/- 0.1 microns. Particle spacers (typically silica or polymer spheres) are manufactured to these tolerances, but standard LCD fabrication cannot “force” the glass substrates to rest on the spacers—stresses in the thin glass due to various thin film coatings (ITO, barrier, polyimide, etc.) cause deformation. The end result is a filled device with a center thickness larger than the spacer diameter. By using a bladder-type press, we can squeeze the excess liquid crystal out of the cell, and press the glass substrates against the spacer particles. The filling port can then be wiped clean and sealed with an appropriate end sealing adhesive. LC Technologies’ end seal presses are hinged to allow opening of the press for cleaning or change of the silicone rubber bladder material. Presses can easily be modified for use at up to 200C for cure of thermal gasket seal LCD materials or other end-user requirements. * LCESP-4 accomodates up to 4.5” x 4.5” cell Inquire for details or current pricing. |
